ANDRIA BRYANT
I’m Andria Bryant, a Legal Assistant and Intake Specialist at Alfano Law Firm, LLC. I work with our clients on probate and estate planning matter.
I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University and live in Lee’s Summit, Missouri with my husband and our three daughters, along with two cats. I have personal experience with probate, special needs planning and guardianship.
My guardianship journey:
My oldest daughter was diagnosed with multiple endocrine problems at 6 months and level 3 autism at 2 ½ years old. In 2024, my daughter turned 18 and became a legal adult in Missouri. With this milestone, I received letters from her school, doctors, and specialists stating that I need to get guardianship to continue helping her and receiving her medical information.
As parents, we often don't think about guardianship for our children because we're busy with daily tasks. However, getting guardianship is important to stay involved in their immediate and long-term medical, educational, and financial needs.
I worked with Attorney Megan Alfano to apply for guardianship of my soon-to-be adult child. The process was smooth, with Megan explaining everything and answering my questions. I began a few months before my child turned 18 to ensure I had the right paperwork and could have a court hearing shortly after her birthday.
Now that I have guardianship, I feel secure knowing I can advocate for my child now and in the future. I suggest talking to a lawyer about guardianship in the year before your child turns 18.
At Alfano Law Firm, we understand the guardianship needs for children with special needs because we are also parents of special needs kids. We empathize with you and will help ensure your loved ones get the benefits and planning they need for a happy, fulfilling life.
